These Aren't Your Mom's Cloth Diapers

When I told my mother I was going to cloth diaper over a year ago, she looked at me like I had three heads and told me about her cloth diapering experience... because both of my siblings were born ling before disposable diapers were what most people used.

She told me about the pre-folds, the pins, rubber pants and all those nightmarish words most cloth diapering mothers today don't even know!

When She saw my middle son's Applecheeks cloth diapers and learned the concept of a pocket diaper she was slightly shocked. Surprised at how far the diapers have really come.

Heck, even the advanced wet bags boggled her mind. I kept telling her "These aren't like your cloth diapers Ma"  Because they really aren't!

I mean, I know there are still people who use the old way of cloth diapering, but most I know are using the new styles, which I personally find easiest. I think for so long I was so intimidated by all the different kinds of diapers, ways to cloth diaper, and all the information out there. I mean, it is totally overwhelming. It wasn't until I was chatting about it on twitter that it really clicked, and I started cloth diapering with pocket diapers.

I thank Gina (TheFeministBreeder.com) for the suggestion of pocket diapers. She loves FuzziBunz, and they even sponsored her for BlogHer 2010, so she really knew her stuff. It guided me to picking pockets. Then AppleCheeks sponsored my transition to cloth with Benjamin. They provided a full time cloth diaper supply for him, and I got so into it.

I love my AppleCheeks diapers, especially since they have come out with prints! With Addison I have expanded my collection out.  Although we did try a single FuzziBunz with Ben that we scored from Gina at BlogHer 2010.

With Addison I now have AppleCheeks, FuzziBunz, Charlie Banana, and now I have recently tried BumGenius. Each diaper has something I love about them, making it hard for me to prefer any specific brand over the other.  My AppleCheeks have a special place in my heart and collection for getting me into cloth diapering. The way they fit are just right.  Then there are the FuzziBunz which I love the one size diaper idea, and their colors. My favorite FuzziBunz color has to be the Apple green. I am obsessed with bright green colors.  Of course Addison has the pinks, and crushed berry colors as well but I still love the green.  (Today we are trying out their new FuzziBunz One Size Elite diaper!)

Then are the Charlie Banana's diapers. They are great as well with the one size feature. I love the absorbency and I can say thus far we haven't had a leak with them. Knock on wood. They also are just coming out with a new print line as well!

Then there is the BumGenius which I am currently having a love affair with. I bought six last month when they had the buy five get one free on their site. I needed a couple extra diapers so I wanted to try something new, and I loved them so much I ended up getting six more before the end of the sale on Halloween.  I think they fit Addison the best out of all the diapers we have, at least currently. I think different stages of her life have brought different diapers that fit better. But since her legs have gotten so chunky these seem to do the trick. I also love that the snap versions of their diapers actually open up to make the size bigger, or smaller for whatever the baby needs.

I think it is safe to say, I am completely obsessed with cloth diapers, cloth diapering, and anything to do with cloth diapers at all.  I almost want to continue buying different kinds just to try them out and expand my own personal knowledge and experience with different diapers.   I am sure some of the other cloth diapering Moms out there have done the same.

What do you love about the new age cloth diapers?
