The Growing Trend of Drugging Children

Just when I thought I have heard it all in the world of bad parenting... a new and unfortunately growing trend is starting to take center stage.

Drugging your kids to get them to go to sleep.

No, I am not kidding at all, although I wish I was when it comes to such  horrible topic.  Now, for those who have read here with me for a while know I used to get a lot of my topics and material from Cafemom, and other charming internet message boards mothers frequent.

In one of the Cafemom newsletters there was a clip about one mother admitting she has been giving her toddler cough syrup nightly at bedtime to help  him sleep, because of course he is just one of those children who doesn't really care about sleep.  Don't we all have one of those?

But why medicate a child when they don't need medication?  This kind of sets me off as someone who rarely uses medication, no matter how tired I am and how much I pray my kids will sleep at night.

To be honest with you, I can't remember the last time I slept all the way through the night, because it has been years. Hell, my middle son didn't even think about sleeping through the night until he was over 18 months old... for real!

I mean, I think this would fall under the category of child abuse. No one should be abusing over the counter medication for their children.

Where I live, when you go into the store or pharmacy and buy most kinds of over the counter medication they actually ask for your license or ID to document your purchase. Crazy right?

Maybe if parents were being held accountable for this over medicating it would stop.

No!  It is NEVER acceptable to medicate your child to sleep when they are not sick. PERIOD!

What do you think Moms?
Would you ever even consider this?
What do you think of parents who cross this line?
