Twitter Pet Peeves: Auto Direct Messages

Twitter is a great place.  It really is kind of the place to be these days... but there are certain unspoken rules to being a user.

Especially if you actually want people to like you, or build an awesome community of followers!

When I first joined, I used to think that all the people I started to follow were actually taking a moment to send me a direct message and thank me for following them, or whatever their message contained.  I felt special!

Unfortunately I eventually realized I was actually being spammed and then my first pet peeve of twitter was born.

I thought twitter was about building conversation, building a community, and of course building great relationships and friendships.  Of course there are going to be some ass hats that do nothing but spam, and I can man up and say sometimes I am spammy on a slow day.  I will tweet my posts, and really have nothing else to day, or be too busy to sit down and have a conversation.  I think we all have days like that though.

If you are looking for a way to start building your blog, or creating your own community, give twitter a try, but remember, skip the automated messages, or essentially anything that would take the actual social out of social media.  Which is exactly what twitter is!
